Big, Beautiful and Comfy

I cut off my locs a few years ago after growing them for 8 years. Wanting to wear larger earrings to demonstrate my femininity without spending a lot of money became top of mind. The downside of wearing larger earrings for any length of time is the weight they put on the holes in my pierced ears which begin to hurt. I found a treasure of beautiful fabric at a local store called The Scrap Exchange here in Durham and found a "how-to" video on making fabric earrings and got busy making earrings that I loved wearing. Not only because of how they made my ears feel, but I also loved the way they looked. I just believe that if these earrings make me feel beautiful and are comfortable for me to wear, other women will also appreciate how they make them look and feel.

I was also inspired to make and sell my earrings as an effort to start raising money for the mission trips that I have been taking to Uganda since 2016 up until the pandemic.  The coronavirus gave me the momentum to do more when I learned about the struggles the young people I met and served with in Uganda were really going through.  The young people you see in these pictures are the ones I am working for.  Once orphans themselves, they still struggle daily to make ends meet and to make meaning of their lives.  I am teaching them what I learn in this process to help them create their own way to survive.  Profits from my store will help fund the work that I am doing.

My family and friends took a liking to my creations which gave me the courage to take a bigger step here on Etsy. If you don't see something you like yet, I regularly update my inventory. Please keep checking back.
